James Spann

Founder & General Partner

James Spann is the Founder and General Partner of Boyd Street Ventures (BSV), a venture capital and venture-building platform based in Norman, Oklahoma, investing nationally in life sciences, health technology, fintech, and infrastructure technology.

A University of Oklahoma graduate and Navy ROTC scholarship recipient, James served seven years as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps before building a 30+ year operating career in healthcare and life sciences. His executive roles included; Global Practice Leader at Simpler Healthcare (an IBM Watson Health company); SVP at Aramark Healthcare Technologies; VP & General Manager at AmerisourceBergen Technology Group; and Operating Room Division President at Medline Industries.

After years of serving on University of Oklahoma advisory boards, James saw promising startups struggle due to limited access to capital and commercialization expertise. In 2021, after five years of research and planning, he founded BSV to address that gap.

Today, he leads BSV’s Mission 2030 strategy—combining venture capital, a national health-tech platform, and an integrated venture studio model to generate alpha returns and scale undercapitalized innovation.
